Welcome students to our little virtual guitar course.
You are going to learn a lot in the space of 3 weeks, so keep revisiting this page, which will be the hub for accessing all the practice material. I recommend that you spend an hour per day, 5 days per week on this material to get maximum benefit from this course!

Week 3 - Creating your own piece
This week you will be creating your own piece of music in the Key of C or G-Major.
Although the below sheet has 12 bars, your music can be as long as you wish. My only recommendation is that you should end the piece with the V7 chord leading to the I chord.
Please begin filling in your bars with notes or chords to your liking. During class time, I will help you to refine your compositions. I will also score them professionally for you to keep.

Week 2 - Melody
(The newest material is at the top, so please ensure you do all the older material before the new ones)
For melody this week, we are going to focus mainly on the Keys of C-Major and G-Major
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ex. 5 - Your Song in C - Major
Notice in Ex. 4 how the melody lines were incorporated with the chords. I would like you to use the following chord structure and create your own song in C - Major, similar to “My Song in G - Major”.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ex. 4 - My Song in G - Major
Ex. 3 - Octaves in the Keys of G and C Major in Open Position. This is to help you to learn all the notes in this position.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The Key of G-Major has all natural notes except for one sharp. This is the F#.
Ex. 2 - Pratice and try to learn all the notes in the Key of G-Major (Open Position) by heart
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The Key of C-Major has only natural notes (no sharps or flats).
Ex. 1 - Pratice and try to learn all the notes in the Key of C-Major (Open Position) by heart

Week 1 - Rhythm
(The newest material is at the top, so please ensure you do all the older material before the new ones)
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ex. 4 - Create your own strum pattern
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ex. 3 - Rhythm Patterns
Practice the Rhythm Patterns in the Diagram to chord progressions outlined below.
- Strum Patterns 1 and 2 - | A | D | E7 | …… Let each chord occupy an entire bar.
- Strum Pattern 3 - | A | D E7 | ………… Notice that A occupies an entire bar, but D and E7 share a bar. Therefore strum D for half of the bar then switch to E7.
- Strum Pattern 4 - | G | D | Am | Am | G | D | C | C | …….Notice that Am and C occupy 2 bars. Therefore, do the strum pattern twice for each of those.
- Strum Pattern 5 - | E | E | A \ A | B7 | B7 | E | E | C#m | C#m | F#m | F#m | B7 | B7 | E | E ||
- Strum Pattern 6 - | C | G | Am | F | C | G7 | C | G7 :||
